A Cup Running Over

Why is it so hard to talk about the Lord when we are together with friends or people we meet? We can visit for hours and never mention God.  What does this say about us? The saying goes, “Whatever the heart is full of will come out of the mouth.” If that’s the case, what’s your heart full of?

I like the illustration of a cup being filled to overflowing. As the cup is being filled it comes to the point of being full and then if the pouring isn’t stopped, it will overflow the sides. The same is true of our lives. We often think of this illustration as being only about our relationship with God, but it applies to anything we spend our time on. What are we pouring into our hearts and minds?  Is there any room for the Lord or is it all filled with other things? Your conversations with others will be an indication.

If we have a close walk with the Lord, spending time in His Word and in fellowship with Him, then that is what will fill our cup. As you live in this way, you will become more aware of the blessings the Lord gives to you and that will come out as you talk to others. When your cup is full to overflowing, you likely won’t be able to keep quiet about what God is doing. It just spills over.

This is what I have seen in my own life. My cup is overflowing with the Lord’s blessings, and I can’t keep quiet about them.  When I’m down, he shows up to encourage me. His presence is awesome!

And from time to time, He has shown me things in my life that I need to change. As I submit, Jesus is changing me. He is gracious and merciful.

As I have been asking for Him to enlarge my territory (1 Chronicles 4:10), the Lord has led me to Paraguay on an EMC Prayer Mission. This was His doing, and I give Him the glory. I don’t know what the future holds but I know that God is so good that I look forward to it. I tell everyone around me this truth.

Seeing the blessings in answered prayer has been so exciting. I need to continue to be ready and obedient when He gives me opportunities to share my faith by word and deed.

If your cup isn’t full to overflowing, then over this year do something about it. The Lord is waiting to bless you, but you must ask and then obey. Living for the Lord is an adventure I pray you will join me on.
